So, I asked Mrs. Agget if she could take some time out of her day to answer some questions for me. Mrs. Agget will also be featuring the new Beta pages that I will be doing. Beta's do a lot of work for the writers, and sometimes, their work can be just as difficult, so I'm giving them a chance to tell us about what they do. Keep an eye out for it!! Here is what Mrs. Agget had to say today:
Me: What started you off writing in the first place?
Mrs. Agget: I've loved to read since I was very young. It took me to another place, where none of the real life issues could touch. I found myself wanting to create those kinds of worlds so hopefully they could do the same for other people.
Me: If you could be as good/ famous as any author in the world, who would it be and why?
Mrs. Agget: Being famous really isn't an issue for me. As long as people who read my work enjoy it, that is reward enough.
There are two authors I could only hope to be as good as. Stephen King and J.K. Rowling.
I started reading Stephen King before I was a teen. I practically inhaled everything i could get by him. His work is so fascinating and as I read, it immersed me in situations I could only imagine. I love how the tiniest details make what he writes seem real. One thing in particular that I still think of today is Wonder bread. That simple reference to something millions of people have in their homes daily made his characters so real, so human. I absolutely adore those little things.
J.K. Rowling is, in a word, amazing. I read somewhere that she said that one day she had a boy in her mind, which was Harry. She took that one character and built such a rich and fantastical world around him, I am in awe. There are things from every book that you think trivial, but are important in the end. She has such a brilliant mind.
Me: What's your favourite book/ piece of FanFiction or both?
Mrs. Agget: At the moment, I can't get enough of Under the Dome, by Stephen King. I am rereading it for the umphteenth time right now. I finish it, turn it over, and begin again.
Although, I have to say that it's so very hard to choose a favorite book overall. All the books on my bookshelf are my favorites, all for different reasons.
Me: Is there anyone in your family who knows you write, if so, who?
Mrs. Agget: I wrote for a long time, hiding it from everyone. Then, when I discovered FanFiction, I gave it a go and my attitude changed. I told anyone and everyone in the family that I write m/m fiction and if they didn't like it, oh well.
Since I did that, I have gotten support from some family members I never thought would support me. I also got told I will go to Hell for what I write. In response, I thanked the supporters and told the others they could get over it and it was my life and I was going to do what made me happy.
Me: Have you published any work yet, if so, what? If not, do you plan to publish anything?
Mrs. Agget: I haven't published yet. Getting published has been my dream since I was a preteen (many moons ago haha). I will continue to try, until I can't try anymore.
Me: Which could you not live without, your mobile or your laptop?
Mrs. Agget: Laptop, absolutely. I don't have a mobile at the moment, but I used to. Even then, I would choose my laptop. It's an extension of me.
Me: What was the first thing that you ever wrote? What made you write it?
Mrs. Agget: I started writing plays with my friends in junior high school. We had a 2 inch binder so full, it would barely close. Ah, those were the days, hahaha. I used to get so excited when she would take it home for the weekend and bring it back on Monday with new stuff to read.
My first FanFiction I ever posted was at the end of February, 2010. I wrote a Twilight Edward/Jasper one shot. I had a fit when i got my first review, hahaha. I was so excited that someone read it and liked it. That moment will never be forgotten. When i go back and read it now, I cringe. HAHAHA!
Me: Family Guy, The Simpsons or American Dad?
Mrs. Agget: Family Guy. It is so deliciously wrong, I love it.
Me: Do you have any advice for aspiring authors? Any words of encouragement?
Mrs. Agget: No matter what happens, write for you and you alone. I learned from a very dear friend that when you get caught up in what other people think of your work, it's easy to lose focus. Some people are going to like your work, and some aren't. The only opinion that really matters, in the end, is yours. If you are happy with what you write, and you get enjoyment from it, don't quit.
So there you have it from Mrs. Agget herself, it looks as though she has had it tough from some people, and there is always going to be someone who says that what you write is daft, or because you write M/M you'll go to Hell. Ignore people like that, being creative is a wonderful thing, embrace it and let it flourish.
As I said, Mrs. Agget will be featuring in the Beta's Interviews that I have begun, so keep an eye out for those pages!!
